Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said outgoing president Ram Nath Kovind fulfilled the BJP's political agenda at the cost of the Indian Constitution. "The outgoing president leaves behind a legacy where the Indian Constitution was trampled upon umpteenth times," said Mufti.
Mufti mentioned the scrapping of Article 370, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the "unabashed targeting of minorities and Dalits" in the country while slamming the former president.
Mufti's remark was criticised by senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Nirmal Singh, who said Mufti insulted the Dalit community by attacking Kovind. Nirmal Singh told India Today that Mufti has "lost her ground and is now resorting to cheap politics". Singh added that it was "unfortunate" that Mufti is "dragging the highest office of the country into politics".
