Muzaffarabad: Under the auspices of Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, a protest rally was held today against Indian atrocities in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Protesters were chanting slogans against Indian atrocities in the IOJK to turn the Muslim-majority area into a minority.
Protesters gathered at Burhanwani Shaheed Chowk in Muzaffarabad, where they chanted slogans in support of Kashmir’s independence, held banners and applause, and marched towards Gharpan Chowk, where they set fire to the Indian flag.
Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, Chairman Hurriyet, PPP Leader Shaukat Javed Mir, Vice Chairman International Forum for Justice, Mushtaqul Islam, Usman Ali Hashim, Hamza Shaheen, Azmat Hayat Kashmiri Abdul Rauf Tantra, Student Leader, Umair Mahfooz Saeed Abbasi, Muhammad Aslam Inqlabi, Organ Zeb Tantra, Qasim Khan and others were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that India has been illegally occupying the disputed area for the last seven decades. He added that during the illegal military occupation, India severely violated the political, religious and social rights of the people there.
“Tens of thousands of civilians have been martyred and thousands, including women, children, youth and the elderly, have been imprisoned,” the speakers said. He said that India had committed a major act of terrorism by forcibly dividing the region on August 5, 2019. Oppression and violence, India has failed to crush the Kashmiri people’s spirit of freedom.
He reiterated that the Kashmiri youth are still lighting the candles of freedom by offering their warm blood.
The speakers urged international human rights organizations to restrain India from violating human rights in the region and called on the United Nations to hold free and fair referendums in Jammu and Kashmir.
