Bangladesh universities not among world’s top 500


No Bangladeshi university made it to the top 500 of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World Ranking this year.

However, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) was among the 801 to 1000th position.

The US based QS rankings, published on Wednesday, did not specify the positions of the universities ranked after the 500th position.

Private universities Brac and North South have also made to the list, ranking in the 1001 and 1200th position.

The rankings are determined on academic and job market reputation, student-teacher ratio, international teacher and student ration and research funding per teacher.

This year nine universities from neighboring India made to top 500 list. Among them Indian Institute of Science ranked 155, IIT Mumbai ranked 172, IIT Delhi 174, IIT Madras 250, IIT Kanpur 264, IIT Kharagpur 369, IIT Guwahati 384 and IIT Indore ranked 394.

Three Pakistani universities also made it to the top 500, with National University of Science and Technology ranking 334th, Quaid-i-Azam University 363rd and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences 390th.

Meanwhile, US universities, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked at the very top like the last 10 years.

University of Cambridge, Stanford University, University of Oxford and Harvard University are among the top five.
