Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina likely to visit India next month

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit India in the first week of September, a source said.

Hasina is expected to visit India on September 5 on a four-day tour at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. She may return to Dhaka on September 8, as per reports.

In June, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram K Doraiswami handed over a letter from Prime Minister Modi to Hasina officially inviting her to visit New Delhi.

She is likely to meet Prime Minister Modi and other Indian leaders, before visiting Jaipur and Ajmer Sharif.

Bangladesh Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim had earlier said she might visit the Indian capital in early September and there would be a ministerial-level meeting between the two countries days before her visit, PTI reported.

Hasina made her last visit to India in 2019.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen earlier said the timeline of Hasina’s visit was proposed during his talks with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar at the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting in Delhi.

He said Dhaka and New Delhi decided to implement the bilateral decisions ahead of Hasina’s India visit while Dhaka expected the much-awaited Joint River Commission (JRC) meeting to be held by then.
