Amnesty International demands release of Indian journalist Mohammad Zubair NewsPipa

Amnesty International India has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of journalist Muhammad Zubair.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Amnesty International has said in a tweet that exposing fake news is not a crime.

Amnesty International said in a statement that Zubair’s continued detention was a disturbing reminder that “you are not allowed to speak the truth in India.”

Amnesty International further wrote in its tweet that while exposing fake news is not a crime, Amnesty has also used hashtags like immediate and unconditional release of Zubair in its tweet. According to Amnesty International, Muhammad Zubair’s arrest is a gross violation of freedom of expression and an abuse of power by the authorities, which sends a message that dissent will not be tolerated in India. It is to be noted that Zubair has been accused of allegedly hurting religious sentiments, making derogatory remarks on news anchors, insulting Hindu gods and goddesses and provoking them in Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar and Hathras districts of Uttar Pradesh.
